FAQ

WHAT IS AN ADJUSTMENT?

An adjustment is a highly-skilled and precise movement usually applied by hand to the vertebrae of the spine or other joints of the body. Adjustment to the joint restores proper movement and improves function. When a joint is adjusted, an air bubble may escape causing a popping noise, similar to when you crack your knuckles.  Depending on the nature of the problem, your chiropractor may also utilize joint mobilization, muscle release techniques, muscle stimulation and therapeutic exercises to relieve your pain and get you moving again.

WHAT MAKES THE SOUND DURING THE ADJUSTMENT?

Lubricating fluid surrounds the bones of each spinal joint. Some adjusting methods can produce a sound when the gas and fluid in the joint shifts. It is like opening a bottle of champagne or removing a suction cup. The sound is interesting, but it isn’t necessary for the therapeutic benefit of the adjustment.

DO I NEED A REFERRAL FROM MY FAMILY DOCTOR TO SEE A CHIROPRACTOR?

No.  A patient does not need a referral.  Chiropractors are registered healthcare professionals in Ontario and can be classed as your Primary Health Care Proffesional.  This means that patients can consult them directly.

IS CHIROPRACTIC CARE COVERED BY HEALTH INSURANCE?

Chiropractic care is covered by extended health policies (employee benefit plans)   Check your health plan to determine the coverage available to you for chiropractic care.
